Athletics Malawi (AM) is ending the year in deep sorrow following the death of its former treasurer Greyson Ndovi on Christmas Day.

Ndovi, who will be laid to rest today at his home in Chilumba, Karonga District, served in the capacity for four years between 2008 and 2012.

Died on Christmas Day: Ndovi

AM president Kondwani Chamwala said on Wednesday: “We are saddened with his death as he served the association with integrity, accountability and transparency. He had the welfare of athletes at heart.

“We will remember him for his selflessness, dedication and passion for the development of athletics in the country. AM extends its heartfelt condolences to the Ndovi family. May his soul rest in eternal peace.”

AM general secretary Nicholas Kanyenda said Ndovi passed on at his Naperi Township residence in Blantyre after an illness. He was 75.

“He was born on September 27 1948. We will greatly miss him as the athletics family as there was a lot we could learn from him,” he said.

Former AM general secretary Mzee Makawa described Ndovi as a humble person, who was dedicated to his job.

“I worked with him between 2002 and 2012. When he was the treasurer, he worked with everybody and we did not need an appointment to meet him. Athletics has lost someone, who could advise the young generation of athletes how to relate with friends and co-workers,” he said.
